How we do surgery at Family Pet Clinic

We have a very strict standard regarding surgical procedures.

We maintain a sterile surgery room, which is used only for one purpose. We do not even prep the patients in this room.

A sterile surgical pack is used for each patient. Our surgeons wear a mask, gown and sterile gloves to make the procedure as safe as possible.
If necessary, we have available a computerized ECG monitor which can be used during surgery to monitor a pet’s heart rate and rhythm.
Pets are monitored by a pulse oximeter during surgery to insure that their heart rate and blood oxygen content remain normal.

Intravenous fluid pumps are used to insure that the proper amount of fluid is delivered to pets during surgery.  IV fluids help to maintain proper blood pressure, which helps maintain normal function of vital organs, as well as insure that the pet does not become dehydrated.

All pets need to have pre-anesthetic blood work done prior to the surgery, to make sure the anesthetic episode is as safe as possible. For your convenience this can be done the morning of surgery with our on-site blood chemistry profile machine.

As you can see, a lot goes into providing a surgery that is as safe as possible for your pets.
